VQ 20: Famous People You Look Like

One of the most interesting compliments you can ever receive is a comparison to someone famous.

Why?

Because it usually opens up your eyes to how people perceive you. And since famous people are so easily identifiable, understanding the compliment is quite easy. Yes, perhaps it’s superficial. But hopefully, there are MANY people in your life telling you what a wonderful person you are inside.

Are these compliments about your resemblence to famous people the epitome of your worth or the best compliments you can receive? Not at all. But they’re fun, so, let’s talk about them. 😁

Haydee [00:00:30]:
Hello there. Welcome to Voluptuous Questions. My name is Haydee. And today, I have a fun question with which I will interview you. Let’s jump right in. My question for you today is, what famous person have you been told you look like? I think most of us have been compared to someone regardless of what our quote unquote score on the beauty scale is. If you don’t think that anyone has ever compared you to someone famous, think again. It could have been a friend, a best friend, a cousin, a kid at school, a grandparent, a store clerk, a stranger, or literally anybody else.

Haydee [00:01:21]:
Let me preface the rest of this episode by saying a few things. Number 1, oftentimes, people reach conclusions about whom they think you look like based on what they see and perceive about you. Number 2, you don’t necessarily HAVE to agree that you look like whoever they say you do. Number 3. It is mostly interesting to hear what other people’s opinions are about who you look like because most of the time, I don’t think any of us would have EVER noticed or stated out loud that WE think we look like the famous person THEY said we look like. So it’s quite cute and eye-opening to hear other people’s perspectives. Number 4, people change physically and internally, so the person that they told you you look like is based on how that famous person looked and how you looked when the comparison was made.

Haydee [00:02:24]:
Number 5. Please leave your modesty aside. If someone has told you that you look like some gorgeous person out there, let it be. That’s awesome! But it doesn’t define you. Number 6. Remember, this is a FUN question, and the main reason it’s fun is because it’s something that almost all humans around the world can universally relate to and understand when you share with them because most likely, they know who the famous person is. And in case they don’t, they can simply look them up online. So having said all that, PLEASE share whom YOU’VE been compared to in the blog notes comment section, which you can find by going to www.voluptuousquestions.com/podcasts and choosing this episode. Or over on TikTok by visiting @VoluptuousQuestions .

Haydee [00:03:24]:
If you’re a bit shy, I TOTALLY understand. In that case, you can send me a private message on www.voluptuousquestions.com/contact. And when I hear whom you look like, I’ll probably say or think, “Ooh, la, la.!” I’m joking, but maybe, I mean, maybe it’s true. Right? Are you curious about whom I’ve been told I look like? Okay. I’ll share whom and a little bit of context because one of my examples requires it and because it makes the other examples more interesting and it makes the comparisons more precise. The first time I remember being told I look like a famous person was when I was talking to my favorite cousins one Christmas night in the early 2000. My most favorite cousin, who knows me the best, said, “You look like Jessica Biel from 7th Heaven.”

Haydee [00:04:27]:
I was quite surprised because I had never been told that, obviously, but I had also never seen the resemblance. However, I appreciate the kind comment because she’s pretty. Who can deny that? The next comparison happened in the year 2001. I was one of the 2 chess club sponsors, and the club kids had a chess tournament in a city nearby. Another chess club sponsor from that city, whom I had never met before, kept smiling at me during the first several hours when we saw each other until he finally had the courage to come and talk to me. We talked for a while and then he said, “Have you ever been told that you look like Alanis Morissette?” I told him I hadn’t, and he said, “I can’t believe you haven’t!” Fast forward a bit and he and I became friends. He introduced me to his wife and he also introduced me to his best friend.

Haydee [00:05:28]:
And guess what? He also swore I looked like Alanis Morissette. Honestly, I still don’t see the resemblance that they saw except for the fact that both Alanis and I had long hair and a big smile. But it was a compliment being compared to such a musical icon. One of my favorite comparisons was when I took a work trip in the late 2000. I was serving myself some continental breakfast before the conference when 2 ladies whom I didn’t know at all approached me and said, you look like Mariah Carey. I was VERY flattered because as you know, if you follow this podcast, Mariah Carey IS my favorite female artist. I’ll be honest and confess that I was delighting in this wonderful comparison, when they approached my table after I sat down and they said, yes, you really look like Mariah, especially from the bottom half of your face.

Haydee [00:06:31]:
That kind of deflated my bubble a little bit, but Mariah has nice cheeks, a nice chin, and smile, especially back then. I really liked being compared to her because it’s one thing to admire someone, and it’s another very special thing to have the honor of being compared to your favorite artist, who also happens to be very pretty. The most recent comparison to a famous person happened this year. And to be honest, I wasn’t expecting it, especially from my best friend of many, many years. A couple of months ago, we were talking when I asked him what concert he would like to go to, and he told me he loves Adele’s personality and singing talent. I agreed that she’s VERY talented, and he said, “You know what? You remind me of Adele. You’re both very kindhearted, and you and her share a similar type of beauty.” I was a bit shocked that he had said that.

Haydee [00:07:37]:
He had never compared me to anybody, so it caught me by surprise. But at the same time, I valued that comparison A LOT because obviously he has interacted with me in person more than ANY other person who’s ever compared me to any other famous person. I was quite honored to be compared to Adele because she’s very pretty, but I can assure you I’m not as pretty as she is. And no, I’m not putting myself down. I’m just being honest. She looks like a doll. You might be thinking that perhaps being compared to these successful, popular, and pretty people have been my most favorite comparisons. But unfortunately, you would be wrong.

Haydee [00:08:28]:
I’ve saved my favorite comparison for last. One day, in the year 2001, I was shopping with my mom in a small city nearby when a gentleman approached me and said, “You are beautiful!” Obviously, that surprised me, but I said, “Thank you.” I’ve realized that so much has changed in the world recently that this story might sound a little bit creepy, but I assure you, it wasn’t. He was a very respectful gentleman who gave me a couple of beautiful and memorable compliments. My mom and I kept shopping, and when we passed the gentleman again, he said, “In what movie or TV show do you come out in? Because obviously, you must be an actress..” I smiled, laughed, and told him I wasn’t an actress and thanked him. It was a nice and unexpected compliment then, but as the years have gone by, I realized that THIS has been my favorite comparison yet.

Haydee [00:09:34]:
You know why? Because he wasn’t seeing the beauty of a famous person reflected in me. Instead, he was seeing MY beauty in ALL of its glory. And I appreciate that now more than EVER, because isn’t that ultimately what we all want? To be seen for who we are and appreciated, especially by us? Just to be clear, when I look at myself in the mirror, both now and in the year when these comparisons happened, I don’t believe that I look like ANY of these artists. I could never be their double in a show, movie, or concert, but that’s okay. I still appreciate those comparisons so much so that I’m sharing them with you. However, I’m PERFECTLY content to be me with my qualities and flaws, both internal and external. Of course, I take care of myself and work on myself, but I simply intend to be the best version of myself that I can, instead of seeking to look like somebody I’m not. Please note that when I shared these comparisons with you, I was ALSO appreciating and honoring the people who have the courage to speak up and give you and I a compliment or what they think is an encouraging word.

Haydee [00:11:02]:
Those people deserve a BIG round of applause. Don’t they? I’m so looking forward to hearing whom you’ve been compared to. So don’t forget to write to me. Got it? Good. Remember, you’re the star of this podcast and the star of your life. Keep shining brightly ALWAYS.
